See It Again Saturday: Bandanna Shirt Tutorial

In case you missed my guest post at Seven Thirty Three this week here is again!

Bandanna Shirt Tutorial

What you'll Need:

Bandanna

T-Shirt

Embroidery Floss

Wonder Under

Iron & Ironing Board
Pencil & Scissors

Step One:
Measure your bandanna. Just eyeball it, it's supposed to be messy. Trust me!

Step Two:
Now you want your bandanna to have movement, not be "glued" to the shirt. To accomplish this place bandanna right side down on your ironing board and mess/crumple up slightly. Now iron your wonder under rough side down onto your messy bandanna.

Step Three:
Trim your bandanna to the appropriate size, flip back over and pin to the shirt.

Step Four:
Turn inside out and use a pen to trace where you want it to be on the collar, unpin and cut!

Step Five:
Peel off the backing of the Wonder Under, place on shirt, cover with a damp cloth and iron on.

Step Six:
 Hand stitch around the edge with the embroidery floss and you're done! I chose not to seal the edges of the bandanna with fray check because I want it to fray a little...y'know go along with the whole "messy" thing!

See It Again Saturday: Stamped Little Birdie Shirt

If you missed the field trip yesterday here is what we did:

 
Stamped Little Birdie Shirt

Step One:
Pour a very thin layer of fabric paint onto a plastic/paper plate large enough for your stamp.

Step Two:
Lightly press your stamp into the fabric paint. Be careful not to get too much paint on your stamp. You only want paint on the raised area, it should look something like this.

Step Three:
Stamp your shirt & allow to dry!

Step Four:
While the shirt(s) are drying. I cut out some little birdies to applique to my shirt. Follow the directions on your Wonder Under or other bonding paper and adhere birdies to your shirt.

Like the birdies I used? You can print or download the template from my sidebar! I made the stencil from a Photoshop brush I got at {Pixels and Ice Cream}! If you haven't already, be sure to check out their awesome site!

Step Five:
Apply a very thin bead of Fray Check to the edges of your appliques to prevent fraying.

Step Six:
Sew or hand stitch around the edge of the birds. I had stitched with embroidery floss at half thickness. Then touch up the beak and tail with a little more Fray Check if needed.

You're Done!

Yay! New Template!

I'm working on a baby shower gift and decided to make another rock star shirt!  

Addicted I know!

I'll post pictures of the finished shirts onesies after the mommy to be gets them but in the mean time here is the new template!

Rock Star Tee & Template

I am so excited about this shirt! I have been wanting to make Asher a cool electric guitar applique shirt for a while but couldnt find a template and can't sew a strait line much less the angles of a guitar...sooo

I made my own template and hand stitched with embroidery floss! I love it!

Here is how to make it and I have even included the template at the end of the tutorial! 

Step One:

Cut out the guitar from your template and iron the Wonder Under to the back of your fabric.

(Rough side down, follow Wonder Under directions)

Step Two:
Flip the guitar over and trace onto the Wonder Under.

Step Three:
Play around with placement and choose where you want your guitar and text.

Step Four:
Peel off the Wonder Under backing and place guitar on shirt where desired.

Step Five:
Cover with a damp cloth and iron guitar to shirt.

Step Six:

Trace the text onto matte side of the Freezer Paper and cut out your stencil using an xacto knife.

Iron stencil onto your shirt and fill in with fabric paint using a very small amount of paint in thin layers allowing to dry in between. (Don't forget to add back the shapes inside the letter "o" etc.)

Step Seven:
Hand stitch around your guitar using embriodery floss.
I split my floss to half thickness (three strands) but this isn't required.

Optional Step:
I used the letters I cut out for the stencil to create a messy reverse stencil on the back of the shirt. I got the "spray paint" look by blotting with an almost dry amount of paint on piece of toilet paper.

Voila!

 Now you have a super cool Rock Star shirt!

I'd love to see this in a pink fabric for a girl too! You can also use the guitar template as a freezer paper stencil and I have included the shapes of the "pickups" and "bridge" to add detail if desired. (The hubs said this was important!) Another fun idea would be to use your embroidery floss to detail the "tuning pegs" at the top.

(Did you just get a guitar anatomy lesson...cause I did!)

Where's the Gym?

Another shirt for Asher! We just had to celebrate those beefy arms!

My stencil was not sticking very well for some reason and I was so not interested in cutting it out again so I tried a messy look with an almost dry brush to prevent bleeding. It's ok.

Six Super Sweet Shirts Sister Sent...Say That 3 Times Fast!

I just had to write a post to show off the adorable onsies my little sis sent for Asher! Isn't she creative! She had made him a few at Christmas and when I let her know they were starting to get a little snug she whipped up some new and extremely cute ones in no time! Thanks Auntie Laurie!!!

Asher LOVES giraffes and I have actually had the image on the left saved to my computer for a while just waiting for a project I could do with it! Laurie beat me too it, and I was so excited to see it!

Well we are an emotional family and I really had to fight back the tears on the 2000 miles shirt, and the IPOOD...hilarious!

What can I say...he's a boy! These are perfect!

Shirts, Shirts and More Shirts!

So I am officially addicted to the whole, bleach pen/freezer paper stenciling shirt thing!
(First step: admitting there's an addiction)

Ok now that I've got that off my chest here are some pics of shirts I made for my nephews and nice this weekend! (T.T. is nickname for Timmy!)

T.T LOVES Puzzles!

It was late and I was out of ideas on the bleach design for Bryon...turned out really cool though! Yay for tired risks that turn out good!

*What not to do: I ironed on the freezer paper stencils the day before then ran out of time. I when ahead and started painting the next day and didn't think to check the seal. Result: some bleeding of the paint. So I am guessing it's best to iron on and paint right away! Or at least check your seal and iron again!

Itsy Bitsy Spider Shirt

Ok I just have to take a second for some self praise...It turned out SOOO cute!! Ok I'm done!

I am so excited about this shirt though! I had mentioned in my Spring Break Extravaganza post where I made Asher's {Spit Happens & Name Tees} that I had a bunch of ideas whirling around in my head and this is the first one to materialize! I used a bleach pen for the web, wool felt for the spider and embroidery floss for the edges. (I'm a big fan of messy floss - love it)

And for those wondering; I did not sew on the spider, that would be my right hand gal Denise.
I still have yet to even touch {"The Machine"}.

I can't wait to see my little cutie in it; however, with his insane rate of growth I purchased an 18m shirt so it might be a few months...weeks...ok ok.. days before he fits it! But I will be sure to post pics when he does!

I also have some thanks to give to Cheri @ {I Am Momma Hear Me Roar} not only for teaching me via blog tuorial how to make these adorable tees but also for featuring my tees on her site!

Spring Break Craft Extravaganza!

Well we didn't get nearly enough projects done but we did make some super snazzy shirts for our boys! Denise also made some super sweet onsies for her niece!

(And you really should because hers are way better than mine!)

Now onto my shirts: I was SOOO excited to try making bleach/freezer paper stencil shirts when I saw a tutorial on {I Am Momma Here Me Roar} and I think it's safe to estimate this is rapidly becoming my new addiction! So fun and easy to make I have already purchased a bunch more shirts and have ideas brewing away in my head!

Since I don't yet know how to sew...yes I know I need to learn! (That was one of the Extravaganza projects that got zero attention due to the juggling of a 2yr old, 5 month old and 2 month old!) Denise sewed on my appliques once they were ironed on. Thanks Denise!! I have a few more ideas and some great fabric that never made it to the table so hopefully I'll learn how to sew soon and whip up a few more! The stencil we used for the applique tie was from {Crap I've Made} but I also have this Guitar stencil bookmarked from {Trey and Lucy} and some awesome skull fabric waiting to be cut!

All in all it was a fabulous couple of days hanging with a great friend making some super cute stuff for our babes! Here are pictures of my stuff for the Ash Man! (Silly nickname lovingly given by his Aunt Tenille!)
