Tutorial Tuesday - Mother's Day Tea Towel Cake
Tutorial Tuesday
Mother's Day Tea Towel Cake
Don't you just love it! Unfortunately as cute as it is my Mom will not be receiving it for Mother's Day. I don't think it would survive being shipped to Canada! But I had the idea in my head and had to put it together! So to Mommy from Asher I guess! Hopefully some of you will make them for you mom! And of course send me pictures if you do!!
Here's how to make it & what you'll need:
Cake Base Board
Bendable Cardboard
Three Coordinating Tea Towels
Baking Utensils & Cookie Cutter
Ribbon, Letters or other Embellishments
Hot Glue Gun & Glue
Four Pins
Step One:
I used a cereal box for my cardboard. If using the same, flatten out and cut two strips.
My first strip was about 4 inches wide by 16 inches long
My second strip was 6 inches wide by 13 inches long.
Step Two:
I found these "designer" coordinating tea towel sets at Ross for $5.00!
Step Three:
Bend the long strip into a circle. Secured with hot glue and then secure to the cake base with hot glue.
Step Four:
Repeat step three with the taller strip and secure it in the middle.
Step Five:
Covering the cardboard is simple. Fold your tea towel (I kept mine folded the way it came) and wrap it around the cardboard and secure with pins in the back. Fold the bottom towel over the cardboard.
Step Six:
Stuff your third tea towel into the top and fluff up all pretty!
Step Seven:
Decorate your cake! I did a baking theme, wooden spoons, whisks and a heart cookie cutter. Then I added ribbon and sparkly letters I had left over from a real cake my friend made for my baby shower.
You're Done! Easy, Cute & Unique! I love it!

Too Cute Towel Hanger

Too Cute Towel Hanger
What you'll need:
$1.00 Unfinished Wood Frame (Michaels)
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge
Scizzors or Paper Cutter
Craft Knife
Screw On Hook
Sand Paper
Ink Distress Pad
Corner Cutter
Embellishments of Your Choice
Step One:
Trace the shape of your frame onto the back of your scrapbook paper.
Step Two:
Use your paper cutter or scissors to cut your traced shape out of the scrapbook paper.
Then use your craft knife to cut out the inner square.
Step Three:
Use your corner cutter to round the corners of your scrapbook paper.
Step Four:
Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to your paper and place on frame. Watch out for bubbles!
Allow to dry completly.
And if you have one; while you wait take some time to squeeze that sweet craft room guard or yours!
Step Five:
Once dry use your craft knife to trim the edges of your scrapbook paper.
Step Six:
Sand the edges and distress with your ink pad.
Step Seven:
Screw on your hook. (I placed just one in the center but you could definetly use a multiple hooks)
Step Eight:
Seal with a think layer of Mod Podge. Make sure to get the edges!
(First time using Mod Podge? Don't worry it will dry clear!!)
Step Nine:
Embellish as desired and hang! We always take our towel clad cutie to his room after bathtime and would end up hanging the wet towel on his crib. This is so much better!
(Wow I really need to get pictures in those frames don't I!)

Field Trip Friday w/ Craft Envy
Hello Aly & Ash readers! My name is Vanessa, and my sister-in-law/BFF Nicholette and I have this little blog called
Why would we name it that? Because it's an evil we suffer from. Craft Envy. We are always looking for ways to make something fabulous, and we can't help it but feel envious of all the wonderful crafters we see in the blogosphere and their wonderful ideas! You fuel our crafting!!! :) Okay, enough silly stuff.
Here are a few things you can find on our blog:
Adorable headband made from an old tie! Isn't it cute?

This layered button bracelet is easy and fun, you can finally use up some of those buttons sitting around.
This egg shell picture frame was such a fun Valentine's Day gift to make!
These cardboard decorative letters look adorable in my little girl's bedroom. Make sure to check them out!
So, Mother's Day is coming up soon, and I've started working on some little gifts for the special women in my life, but I didn't quite know how to wrap them, they're tiny gifts... That's when I saw my trusty bag of toilet paper rolls, waiting to be turned into something fabulous, and came up with this:
That's right friends! These cute boxes are made out of TP rolls! Let's get to it.
What you'll need:
- TP roll
-glue
-scissors
-pencil
-some kind of paper to cover your box (I used some old tissue paper from a gift, and a napkin!)
-embellishments
Flatten your TP roll, and trace on both edges a curved line, like you see above.
Cut out on the line you just traced. Your roll will look like this.
Baad picture, sorry. But you get the idea, fold the edges you have just cut out, to the inside of the roll.
You will do that to all of them. It will look like this. Isn't that a cute shape?
Now go ahead and open your roll out again, cover it with glue and lay it on the paper you want to use. I like to crinkle up the paper to give it some texture, I think it looks cool! After that, go ahead and trim your paper to the shape of your little gift box.
Don't forget to embellish away! I tied a cute little bow in one, and I used a paper flower on the other, but you could add whatever you like! And they're perfect size for the little beaded watches I'm making... Shhhh.... don't tell the mothers! :)
Jax, thanks so much for giving us a chance to be a guest at your awesome blog! You have no idea how many of your projects are currently bookmarked on my computer right now!
What a GREAT idea! I can't wait to try it! It would also be good with paper towel rolls for larger items! Thanks for sharing Nicholette & Vanessa! Everyone make sure to check out their blog {Craft Envy} it's full of amazing projects and tip!
And don't forget to enter my {HUGE GIVEAWAY}!
And if you've already entered check out what's {In the Box} it's getting REALLY good!

And this Christmas I made this wreath from a couple sticks of berries from Michaels. My whole house was decorated in silver and blue!

I love to make headbands and accessories! This headband was super easy and you can find a tutorial here. Now I just need a cute baby to model all of my headbands for me!
