"The Machine" Chronicals:
Chapter One
First off can I just say how lucky I am that my friend Ashley from {Cute As A Fox} lives just down the street! And can I say how even more lucky I am that she gave me a sewing lesson the other day! It was fabulous! And even better....I MADE THIS!!! It's true! I REALLY made this...with"THE MACHINE". This may look easy peasy lemon squeezy to you...but for me it was a major feat! I thought Ashley was crazy to tell me this was going to be my "easy first project" but she was right! I loved it! I can't wait to make more....and take some more sewing lessons! THANKS ASHLEY!

And it wouldnt be Tutorial Tuesday without the tutorial!

See It Again Saturday

Incase you missed last weeks field trip at {Keeping Up With The Johnsons} here is the tutorial!
Splendidly Regal Bow
Tutorial

What you'll need:
Wool Felt
Button
Shank Cutter or Old Scissors
Hot Glue Gun

Step One:
Cut out a strip of wool felt aprox. 6.5 inches thick by 1 inch wide and then mark the middle.
I used a roatary cutter but you can also just use fabric scissors.

Step Two:
Fold the felt as shown and secure with a little hot glue.
You will want to leave a little flap hanging off the end. Repeat with the 2nd side.

Step Three:
Flip your "bow in progress" over and this is what it should look like.
Now use your fingers to pinch the bow and create dimples bringing the edges to the center.

Step Four:
Let go of your bow! Trust me this is ok! The felt will have creases where you folded it so it will return to it's perfectly dimpled form in just a minute! Now cut a strip of felt to wrap around the center of the bow.
Flip the bow back over and place a bead of glue on the back.

Step Five:
You don't have to but... I like to cut it a little too long so I have a bit to hold on to. Now glue your strip on the back of the bow and wrap it all the way around. Pulling taught and pinching your bow the dimples will come back and you can manipulate the felt a bit to make it perfect!

Step Six:
Your bow is done so now let's add embellishment! I found these little regal buttons at Joann's and since they were sold out of shank cutters (grr) I used an old pair of scissors to cut off the shank on the back. Now simply hot glue to the front of your bow!

Tada! Isn't it just splendid!
You can now glue it to a hair clip for a girly girl or a headband for a chic mommy!
You should also check out Trey&Lucy, I started trying wool felt instead of ribbon when I saw {this tutorial}

Tutorial Tuesday: Girly Girl Bows

Tutorial Tuesday
Girly Girl Bows

Just when you thought there couldn't be another bow tutorial in blogland here it is! Much to my suprise I have had several requests for a bow tutorial so why not! I can't take any credit though as my friend Chantae {See her newborn Ezra's photoshoot here!} taught me everything I know!
Oh and please excuse my nasty hands...mama needs a manicure stat!

What you'll need:
Ribbon
Needle & Thread
Medal Clips
Glue Gun & Glue
Lighter to burn edges to prevent fraying.
Two Hands...
(Thank you to the hubs for taking pictures!)

Step One:
Thread your needle and tie a knot in at the end so you are threading with double thickness. Set aside.

Step Two:
Time to jump right in! Grab your ribbon and make your first loop.

Step Three:
Continue to make loops keeping bow scrunched between your thumb and finger. If you ribbon is patterened on one side you'll need to twist as you look to keep the pattern showing.
You can twist the 2nd tail up the opposite direction or down the same direction.

Step Four:
Is your hand cramping yet? I promise the more you make the easier it gets!
Now take your threaded needle and poke through the top middle of the bow. Thread back through your thread to create an anchor with the knot you tied.

Step Five:
Wrap the thread around your bow again and again and again!
Secure thread by weaving through the back a few times creating a few knots.

Step Six:
You can let go now! Your bow is complete! Wahoo! Set aside and let's move onto the clip.
Use the same or coordinating ribbon and hot glue to cover your metal clip.
Make sure you do not allow the clip to close while the glue in on there or you'll have to start over!

Step Seven:
Now that your clip is covered simply glue your bow to the clip.
Take one last piece of ribbon and start by placing a tiny dab of glue to the middle of your bow. Stick ribbon on glue and rap around glueing to the underneath/inside of your clip on the bow side.

Optional Steps:
Cut triangles out at the ends as seen in 1st pic. (The hubs insisted on taking a picture of me burning the ends to prevent fraying...boys!) You can also glue one bow on top another before wraping with your final piece of ribbon to make a double bow or add buttons to embellish!

Tada! Now you have a cute little bow for your girly girl!

And just for fun I'm giving one two THREE pairs away!!

See it Again Saturday - Monogram Bow Holder

Incase you missed last weeks Field Trip Friday here is the tutorial!

Monogram Bow Holder
Isn't it cute! It's a gift along with all the bows for my bestie's daughter Baby K! (nickname of course!)

How to Make It:
First get your vinyl monogram letter from {Choose the Writing}!

Then I just used scrapbook paper and Mod Podge on a $1.00 Michaels wood frame. (Not sure how to do this? Check out my detailed {Too Cute Towel Hanger} tutorial.)

Once the frame was done I snagged some glass from an old 4x6 frame, applied my vinyl letter and used hot glue in the corners to secure glass to the frame.

For the ribbon, select two coordinating colors of different widths and hot glue to the back of your frame! It's that simple!

Attach the bows to the top ribbon!

Happy crafting! Be sure to send me pictures if you make one!

Simply Bow-tiful!

So I have blogged before about my addiction to bow making...oh if only I had a daughter! My friend Chantae was gracious enough to show me how to make these little babies a while back and I haven't stopped since! I made a collection for my niece for her 3rd birthday but apparently they are not to be taken out of the {Mod Podge Tin} I made to hold them! (She also apparently packs the tin all around the house and takes it to school with her everyday!)

I have been working on a cute piggy tail collection of bows for my bestie's daughter and am shipping them off to Canada TODAY! (I promise!) Here are a few of my favorites!

Aren't they cute!

This week I will be focusing on the little princesses with a Flower Wreth Headband tutorial tomorrow for Tutorial Tuesdays and an Extremely Cute Bow Holder Tutorial for Field Trip Fridays over at {Choose The Writing} Oh and the Extrememly Cute Bow Holder is going along with the bows to Canada so Claire if you haven't recieved the parcel yet...no peeking!

Lastly, One for the Mommies:
Today is the last day to enter my Chic Mommy Headband GIVEAWAY over at {Cute As A Fox Creations}!! Don't miss out!
